As New York Institute of Technology looks to expand its research capabilities and fill a need for high-resolution microscopy in the Long Island region, one major component of that strategy is the expansion of the university鈥檚 facilities.
On September 15, 2023, members of the 91社区 community, including trustees, university leaders, deans, faculty, and staff, as well as elected officials, gathered on the Long Island campus for a demolition ceremony at the site of the former 500 Building to officially kick off the construction of the Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Imaging Center (BRIIC).
On May 16, the community gathered once again. This time, to celebrate the grand opening of the 20,000-square-foot state-of-the-art research facility, which includes a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) machine and a multicolor 3-D STED (stimulated emission depletion) microscope. The BRIIC is anticipated to expand the institution鈥檚 research footprint and further its strategy to become a Carnegie-classified Research 2 university.
